Elite Hosts IEEE EMC "Oktoberfest" Meeting
Posted on: October 22nd, 2008
Elite recently hosted the IEEE EMC Society Chicago Section October meeting. The meeting featured a technical presentation covering the broad topic of EMI filtering. Two experts from Corry Micronics, a manufacturer of EMI filters, were on hand to present the information.
James Price, VP of Engineering for Corry Micronics, lectured on specific bandpass/band reject filters used for RF communication systems. These devices include lumped element filters, microstrip type, ceramic resonators, cavity filters, and waveguides.
Bob Meilleur, Engineering Manager for Corry Micronics, presented the subtopic of feed through filters. These filters are primarily used at the RF boundary of a shielded system and attenuate RF emissions and prevent RF and transient susceptibility problems. Mr Meilleur, discussed the general function, construction, and composition of EMI filters as well as filter topologies, ie C, L, and pi, filters. He wrapped up the presentation describing the process to properly select filter elements based on parameters such as topology, attenuation, packaging, etc.
Themed “Oktoberfest 2008”, this evening event included a German cuisine dinner of bratwurst, pork loin, chicken breast, German potato salad, red cabbage and sauerkraut, as well as apple strudel. Good food, German Polka music and Oktoberfest refreshments helped to set the casual and friendly meeting atmosphere.
