ASABE & SAE CHICAGO SECTIONS
held their Chapter meetings at Elite on
Wednesday June 30, 2010 5:30pm- 8:30pm
EMC Regulations and Tests for Trucks, Construction Machinery, and Agricultural Equipment
A key hurdle for manufacturers to overcome when pursuing global market access for on-road vehicles, construction, and agricultural machinery is compliance with government regulations for safety and EMC. These compliance requirements vary from market to market and often change as they adapt to new technology or as they harmonize with industry standards and government legislation. This presentation will provide an overview of the current and proposed regulations and conformity assessment schemes for the truck, construction, and agricultural equipment industry.
Emphasis will be on current and proposed requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in the developed markets of North America and Europe. The information presented will center on the European Union and ECE e/E-marking type approval process for on-road trucks and agricultural tractors. The homologation type approval requirements and processes will be outlined for both vehicles and for components. The presentation will also cover the New Approach CE Marking Directives, harmonized standards, and conformity assessment process for agricultural and construction machinery and electronic subsystems.
Laboratory Tour:
After the presentation, this meeting will include a tour of the Elite EMC and environmental stress testing laboratory. Elite is one of the largest independent EMC labs in the US having over 11 EMC chamber sets configured for automotive, military, and commercial product testing. Elite’s largest chamber is a 100ft long, 35ft wide RF shielded room used for EMC testing of large agricultural tractors, construction machines, trucks and cars.
The Elite environmental stress test laboratory is equipped with five electro-dynamic vibration tables, over twenty temperature/humidity and altitude simulation chambers, HALT/HASS chamber, dust, rain, and other test climatic and dynamics test stands.
Speaker: Steve Laya, Elite Electronic Engineering.
