For nearly 70 years, Elite Electronic Engineering has been the first choice for product testing across a range of industries. And for good reason. Elite’s campus is conveniently located in Downers Grove, Illinois, within driving distance from Chicago’s airports.  Elite’s fully accredited laboratories are equipped for EMC/EMI testing, along with vibration, environmental stress, materials, and photometry. 

Getting Started

When testing is needed for EMC/EMI, environmental stress, product life, or photometry, Elite should be your first call. Reach us by phone at 630-495-9770 or contact us online and describe the service you need. An experienced engineer will answer your questions, describe the testing required, and develop a quote around your budget and your schedule.

Elite’s knowledgeable sales and scheduling engineers can prepare a quote and schedule your product’s test. As plans for your product’s testing proceed, Elite will help develop a test plan so that your product can expeditiously receive a complete set of trusted results.

Scheduling your test

Scheduling your test is the next step. Elite’s laboratory is equipped with numerous test chambers, exposure tools, and state-of-the-art test instruments that enable flexible scheduling for your project. Please identify any special testing needs, project information updates, or new instructions when scheduling your project. Also, remember that before we can begin testing, we will need your purchase order or credit-card authorization.

Shipping products to Elite

Often, clients come to Elite to witness and support their product’s testing and may carry their test items and support equipment with them. However, if you prefer to ship your product to Elite by UPS, Fed Ex, or truck freight, you can address the shipment to the following address:

Elite Map

Located in the heart of the I-88 R&D corridor, Downers Grove, Illinois, the facility serves as both our headquarters and our primary testing site for EMC/EMI and Vibration. Our North Annex is minutes away in Lombard, IL, with additional Environmental, Materials, and Photometry test setups. Both sites are located just 30 minutes from either Chicago’s O’Hare or Midway Airports and conveniently located near hotels, restaurants, and major highways.

Elite’s laboratories contain facilities and equipment that need special safety precautions. Please check the safety requirements below to prepare for your visit and make sure a safe experience:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Visitors must follow posted signs and verbal instructions about the use of PPE. Elite provides eye and ear protection for laboratory areas where required.
  • Apparel:  Visitors working in the lab shall wear long pants, shoes that cover the entire foot, and proper attire for protection in the thermal chambers and bench areas. Steel-toe shoes are not required.
  • Tool and Machine Shop:  Only Elite staff may run machinery in the tool and machine shop areas.
  • Test Setups and Disassembly: Only Elite staff may make/break connections at power sources and assemble/disassemble test setups and equipment configurations.
  • COVID-19: Latest health guidelines for visiting our facility.

How can I get my testing done at your laboratory?


Contact our sales department to discuss your testing needs. You will receive technical guidance, a services proposal, and instructions to proceed. Our laboratory scheduler will work with you to set a start date. Please identify any special testing needs and project information. Note that before we can begin testing, your purchase order or credit card authorization will be needed.

How should I ship my product to Elite?

Does Elite have a shipping dock?


Elite can receive truck shipments of test items. Typically we utilize our forklift trucks to load/unload the freight up to 5,000 lbs. With advance notice we can receive heavier or oversize test items. Inform your sales engineer if you have special test item handling needs.

How many shifts does Elite work?


Typically our test staff will work a single 8-hour shift. If your project has special requirements to compress the test schedule, discuss your needs with the lab manager.

How early or late can I stay at your laboratory?


Our normal business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30p.m Monday through Friday. If you need to arrive earlier or stay later, discuss your plans with your test engineer or the lab manager. Elite appreciates our staff’s time beyond business hours, so we reserve after-hours work for special circumstances requiring extra attention.

Can I bring a camera into your laboratory?


Elite respects your confidentiality and that of other customers. Cameras are generally not allowed in our laboratory. Your test engineer will photograph your test item and setup. If you have a need to take your own photographs, discuss this with your test engineer.

How quickly can I start testing at Elite?


Elite has invested in equipment and staff to optimize our labs. To ensure test time according to your needs, please plan ahead and contact us when your start date is reasonably certain. We ask as much advance notice as practical to ensure your scheduled date. However, when an urgent test start date is requested, contact us. We understand your test needs and work to make our lab resources available as needed.

Does Elite have a quality system?


Yes. Elite is ISO 17025 accredited for testing and ISO 17065 accredited for product certification. See our quality assurance information for more details.

What kind of equipment can Elite provide to support my testing?


Each test project is unique. Contact an Elite sales engineer to discuss your specific needs. DC power supplies, data acquisition instruments, or compressed air are resources are available to support your project. Elite provides turnkey test support systems if you do not have these resources. Discuss your specific needs with your sales engineer.

Do you have fiber optic transceivers to interface I/O into and out of your EMC test chambers?


We provide fiber optic transceivers for CAN-based communications. We can interface most I/O such as analog or power signals through chamber filters, cable shielding, or waveguide cutoff. For special requirements, discuss your needs with your Elite sales engineer.

If I’m experiencing problems with my test item, can Elite help troubleshoot?


Yes. Elite’s testing is provided by experienced personnel. They are the first line of assistance with your testing issues. We also have a team of Senior EMC and Environmental engineers to call upon for more in-depth support.

What happens if my testing extends beyond the initial estimate of test time?


We understand that not all testing proceeds as planned. New products or product enhancements often have uncertainty in performance. When project delays occur, our test engineer and laboratory managers will discuss a project completion plan with you. We schedule our laboratory with respect for your needs and that of other scheduled clients. Our schedulers will work with you and our other clients to shuffle resources when necessary to keep your testing on track.
